Series: Hard Ink #4Warning: Past Abuse
--One Sentence Summary--
Beckett and the Hard Ink team are closing in on the answers to their ambush in Afghanistan but Beckett is finding himself distracted by Kat -- Nick's younger sister.
--What are the Issues--
Beckett had a very rough upbringing with an abusive father who did a number on his confidence and self-worth. He struggles a lot with his purpose in life and he's strongly affected by the fact that his best friend Marz lost a leg saving his life -- a life he's not even sure was worth it. Beckett also has no desire to ever marry or have kids because he's terrified he'll turn out like his father. Kat showed up in Baltimore to get a break from DC and her work as an attorney. She also has an ex-boyfriend that isn't taking the breakup very well and she needed some space. She never expected she'd end up in the middle of her brother's fight and she's forced to come to terms with the very illegal nature of what the Hard Ink team is doing.
--What I Liked and Didn’t Liked--
A Bittersweet Ending -- It's always hard when a series comes to an end and this was no different. The Hard Ink series has quickly moved into my top 5 favorite series and as much as I wanted answers to the investigation, I also didn't want to say goodbye to these characters. The Hard Ink team and the woman they fall in love with are some of the best written characters I have ever read and they've become so much like real people for me. So this ending was hard (no pun intended) knowing that I would have to let these amazing characters go. I won't give away anything, but this was a great conclusion to the series, especially the epilogue, which was beautiful. Laura Kaye packs quiet a lot of pain, tears, and happiness into the last 25% of this book and it's a roller coaster of emotion.
Beckett's Inner Marshmallow -- I knew Beckett was the strong, silent type from the previous books, but this one really showed us Beckett's inner soft side. He comes across as very intimidating and tough and it's often mentioned by other characters how quiet he is so I was already intrigued by what was going on inside his head. Well, it was a lot apparently and some of it was heartbreaking. Beckett has a really poor view of himself thanks to his abusive father and it broke my heart every time he would look down on himself or feel he wasn't good enough for his friends or for Kat. There were some tough times where I just wanted to shake Beckett and smack him over the head but he always corrected himself and after a few start-stops, he gets it together where Kat is concerned. Watching Beckett try to be a better partner was Kat was a highlight of this book.
A Strong Woman -- Kat was just plain awesome, she's totally the tough, strong, successful woman that we all hope to be when we grow up. We saw her bravery in Hard to Come By when she fought alongside the men on the roof of Hard Ink. This book offered more of Kat's bravery in the forms of mental and emotional strength. Kat's an attorney and she knows her brother and his team are using illegal means to get their information, so she has to decide between her career and her family (spoiler: she chooses her family). I also loved how feisty, sarcastic, and down to earth Kat is. She has no problem getting her hands dirty, she cusses, and she's not afraid to go after what she wants in the bedroom. I almost want to hate she's so perfect, haha.
--Final Thoughts--
I'm sad to see the end of this series but it was an amazing ride and this ending was the perfect cherry on top. Tons of action, emotion, and deep character development. I'll miss the Hard Ink team.

Hard to Let Go A Hard Ink Novel Laura Kaye 9780062267948 Books Reviews
Hard to believe that one of the most amazing series of all time is ending. As the team are desperately still trying to trap their enemies, Kat Rixey arrives at the compound. She harbours a secret her ex-boyfriend Cole is stalking her. Beckett Murda doesn’t quite understand what draws him to Kat, his friend Nick’s little sister; she grates on his nerves and yet he finds it hard to tear his eyes away from her. But Kat is tough, so tough in fact that she is able to deal with Beckett when she begins to understand there is something behind the man who mostly grunts answers. Kat also shocks her brothers with a brash and brave decision that could alter her whole future when the chips are down, but her family comes first.
HARD TO LET GO is an adrenaline rush almost from beginning to end! And amidst the breathtaking action and suspense, a rough and tumble love story unfolds as Beckett tries to get a life, literally, in the arms of hard-headed, no-nonsense Kat. Becket and Kat don’t know each other so well, can’t explain this attraction that shakes them to their very core, and yet it’s unavoidable. And so very, very, very HOT! And the action part? Unbelievable! I thought I was going to have a heart attack! Laura Kaye was saving the best for last, action-wise, anyway! It is going to be very, very hard to let go of this amazing, fantastic, fabulous series. What will happen to Hard Inc. … Oops … Thank you, Ms. Kaye for Your. Best. Book. Ever! (except maybe for Jeremy's...)
I am so sad to see the Hard Ink Series by Laura Kaye come to an end. I have loved every one of the Hard Ink stories and I feel like I am one of the team after reading them all. I love how different each love story has been with this series while following the common plot between them all. In Hard to Let Go, we get to read about Beckett and Kat. Their story is explosive. Their passion for one another as well as their short tempers makes for an interesting romance. It kept me turning pages, along with the team unraveling more information to get closer to solving the series-long mystery. If you have not read this series, you really need to read it in order, so I suggest you go back to the beginning and read Hard As it Gets.
Hard to Let Go definitely made me squirm at the insanely hot intimate scenes but also had me in tears at a few heartbreaking scenes. The pacing is great, however there was a scene or two where I wanted to tell Beckett and Kat to keep their pants on and get on with what else is happening around them (they do enjoy their sexy time together). Beckett and Kat each had their own internal struggles that added another layer to this book. I was so happy for both of them when they finally trusted each other enough to let the other one in.
As with all the other Hard Ink books I love being with the team and learning new information to help clear their names after their dishonorable discharge from the Army that also killed many teammates. Hard to Let Go is a fantastic romantic suspense that forces the reader to turn pages and holds you captive until the very end. I highly recommend you give it a read!
